Private Paradise ~ Jami Alden

Baby it's coooooold outside.

Don't get me wrong....I enjoy winter...I love the snow... Never mind hibernating...there is so much to do....snowshoe through the woods, go tobogganing, build snow sculptures (Mere snowmen are not enough!)....Hey, I even have fun shoveling!
Look! Proof I'm an Angel! Or Crazy. You decide.

Alas not everyone does appreciate the cold, wintery weather like I do...That said, I certainly know when to throw in the towel when the temps outside reach -40 below! (GO AWAY Polar Vortex!!!!)
All that said, while I like winter, if you have followed my blog for awhile you know that I love to jet off to the Caribbean sun for a week to relax. Unfortunately sometimes (like this year) that isn't an option.
(@#$%^&!!)

I am here in spirit!!

Whether you are escaping this frigid cold weather by vacationing to an island (TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!) or taking a time out in a hot bubble bath (DO NOT TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!)...... I recommend grabbing a copy of this sexy book to keep you company and help warm you up!

Book Description from Amazon.com:

After years of catering to the whims of the rich and famous at one of the Caribbean's most luxurious resorts, there isn't much that can rattle Carla DeLuca.
Until Sam O’Connell shows up.
Tall, dark, and sexy, Holley Cay's new security chief is no stranger. He's the irresistible bad boy who seduced her over a long, hot summer only to leave her heartbroken, humiliated, and determined to never again fall for a player like him. But though her heart still stings with the memory of his rejection, her body can't forget the all-consuming pleasure of his touch.

Sam never forgave himself for his too cruel rejection of Carla over a decade before. Young, reckless, and convinced it was only a matter of time Carla regretted hooking up with a trouble maker like him, Sam pushed Carla away before she could realize her mistake. But when Sam lands a job working for Carla in paradise, he seizes the chance to finally make things right.

When a hurricane strands them alone on the island, Carla is unable to resist the passion simmering between them. She doesn't fool herself that what they have will last past the storm. But little does she know, Sam will do whatever it takes to make her his – forever this time.

My Take:

I liked it! So much so that my standard complaints apply to this review. It wasn't long enough for me, could have used more detail, why did it have to end so soon?? I enjoyed the characters chemistry, however the novel at times felt rushed to me (Gah, I hate when that happens!) I found myself wanting 'more'....more story, a few more twists, turns, more details etc...just to keep these characters and novel going a bit longer.... That is not a negative thing at all. It just means I like "MOOOORE" (I totally just sang that word like the Madonna song on the Dick Tracy sound track...Google it...)

I think it is safe to say that my favorite type of love story involves two characters with a past connection.....I also give extra bonus points for the scenarios that involve some level of animosity... (I maintain there is something extra sexy about those scenarios....the fiery and passionate the better..just sayin'!)
Sam and Carla have this amazing chemistry and it's pretty obvious that after all the years, they are still hot for each other. This novel follows both their points of view, so we are treated to the good ol' His and Her version of what went down all that time ago. The full story eventually reveals itself through flashbacks. (....and I wanted to slap him for her)

I have already read this book twice and will do so again. I've added author Jami Alden to my 'authors to read' list. I really enjoyed her writing style and the sense of humor. It made for a fun, sexy read.

Tempting Fate ~ Amber Lin

I'm blushing.

No really. BLUSHING.

I'm pretty sure my Kobo has steam rising from it, and not because the battery is overheated.

My sexy little minx readers dying for an adult novel, listen up!
(This is not a novel for prudish types!)

I'm a bit behind on getting this review to you! My apologies. I can sit here, grovel and ask for forgiveness about my lack of posts as of late, but NO! Let's get on with this review so you can run out and grab a copy for yourselves. (No, not you mom, I don't think you can handle this one......)

Book Description from Amazon.com:

Rose Murphy is ready to break free from her brother's control. She's ready to open her own ballet studio. And most of all, she's ready to live without fear. So when she sees her brother's lawyer, the man she's lusted after for years, she gives in to her body's desires.

A sexy show through her bedroom window whets both their appetites. On Drew's next visit, he returns the striptease favor. Mutual masturbation gives way to a naughty late night phone call. She's a breath away from everything she's hoped for, but not everyone wants them to be together. When the relationship comes to light, their sensual bliss may be shattered.

My Thoughts:

If you are into Erotic Romance and you haven't yet read anything by Amber Lin, than you are completely missing out. (I highly suggest you remedy your oversight and run out to purchase these novels!)

Let me tell ya...for a small novella Tempting Fate packs a very large punch!
This is my third review of Amber's novels and if you have read any of my previous blogs (and you should!) you will know how much I champion her work. This is a lady who belongs at the top of the best sellers lists! It's people like you and me who support Indie Authors who can make that happen.

As I read Tempting Fate, I almost forgot that it was a novella I was reading and not a lengthy story. I want to tell you I am heartbroken or irritated that this wasn't a full length novel, but I can't. It was perfect just the way it was. In keeping with her previous novels, the writing is fluid, descriptive and the story is sexy as sin.
(Again, a book made me blush!! ME!! Blush!!! Crazy!!)
It's not just a book about a woman finally coming to terms with her feelings and her sexuality, it's a book with conflict and a touch of mystery. I can't believe how much was jammed into the pages of this novella, and it was seamless!! (Seamless I say!!)
The Lost Girls Series show us that romance isn't always fluff, rainbows and roses. These novels are dark, edgy and not at as predictable as you would think.
They are passionate and provocative!
Rose was introduced to us before in passing in the previous Lost Girls novels, so to finally read about her story was exciting. She's always remained a bit of a mystery and now we can finally get to know why.
The sexual tension between her and her brothers lawyer Drew Laramie practically sets the pages on fire. I thought my Kobo would spontaneously combust.
A powerful kingpin in the underworld, Phillip is extremely overprotective of his sister, which means Drew and Rose have to keep their romance under wraps. Neither wants to know what Philip will do should he discover what's going on right under his nose....but is Phillip the only threat they face?

I would recommend reading the series in order..... but if you wanted to read Tempting Fate as a stand alone, if anything to sample the author's work, you could get away with it. I'm warning you though, once you read any of these novels, you will run out and grab the rest! I'm willing to bet on it.

I also have to give a shout out on the cover design. Each one of the Lost Girls novels have stunning covers and Tempting Fate is by far my favorite of the three.

Being Me ~ Lisa Renee Jones

Let me tell you of a trilogy,
Full of sexcapades and mystery,
A naughty tale with BDSM,
Journals, Missing Woman and Sexy Men,
A cliffhanger that will make you scream,
Rebecca's whereabouts unknown,
Want a great story to read?
The Inside Out Trilogy by Lisa Renee Jones......

Hey look... I'm a Poet, didn't know it! ;)

http://s7.directupload.net/images/130421/hhaclhjw.gif

I was absolutely ecstatic when Best Selling Author Lisa Renee Jones read my blog review on 'If I Were You' and gifted me an advanced copy of Book Two of The Inside Out Trilogy (along with some of the novellas that inspired the series) to review.
(Again... a big Thank You!!!)

That book is titled "Being Me"

It took me a bit longer to get to the books than I wanted, my Kobo has been giving me grief for the past few weeks. My husband actually had to intervene before my lap top and Kobo met with a baseball bat (or the tires of my car...maybe both...) I swear I have never had this much trouble with technology before! I think it may be time for an upgrade.
I digress....

I breathed a huge sigh of relief when the files finally made it to the Kobo and I wasted no time diving in! The cliffhanger from the first book was killing me. (KILLING ME I say!!!!)

Now, before I continue any further, there is a teeny tiny detail you need to know when you read the Inside Out Trilogy.

YOU REALLY SHOULD READ THE NOVELLA'S BEFORE YOU READ "BEING ME"!!!!!
(sorry for the caps...I need to get that point across)

Just keep reading! I will provide a complete list of 'order to read' at the end of this blog!

So why are these novella's so important?
They are Rebecca's Journals. The ones that Sara find in the storage unit in the first book.
Reading them gives us more clues and insight as to who Rebecca is and what her relationship with the Master is like. They also have other tid bits and details included within the pages that will help you understand things that take place in 'Being Me'.
Should you not read the journals, you may be left scratching your head at a certain point.

They are very quick novella's to read, won't take you long at all to get through them.

Now....Onto the novel "Being Me"

Let me start by saying, I WILL NOT spoil what happens for you.
Not at all.
There are lots of reasons for that.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.....
You will just have to trust me.
**enter my cute and innocent face here**

If you missed the gist of what these novels are about, I will share an excerpt from my previous blog on this series. (You can also click the link to read that blog yourself! It's a good one!)

"Sara McMillian is a high school English teacher, intelligent, caring and compassionate, (she describes herself as a 'hugger') but seems to be damaged goods.... When she comes across the explicit sex journals, she tries to find the owner Rebecca, to return them. Her search quickly leads to an Art Gallery from which Rebecca is on a leave of absence. Sara meets Mark Compton, Manager of the Gallery, who ends up spontaneously giving her a summer job. He's like the serpent offering Eve a big juicy apple.... tempting her with a taste of the life she used to long for. His motives are questionable and his need for her to learn about wine almost makes me not want to drink it. (I kid... I need my nightly glass of Merlot!)"

The entire trilogy is a truly addictive story that will keep the pages turning!
Warning: If you read while cooking than dinner may burn! (I saved it in time!)...Dishes will go ignored...You've read my blogs....you know the drill.....

I will tell you that if you have read the first book (and you really should!!) plus Rebecca's Lost Journals (the novellas) than 'Being Me' will answer all the questions you want to know in regards to the Rebecca disappearance.
(FYI: It's an Eyebrow Raising-Jaw Dropping- 'Didn't See That Coming' Kinda Mystery!)
We learn more about Chris (the sexy, brooding, bad boy, live outside-the-box Artist) and the secrets he is keeping from Sara. Heck we even learn more about Sara and her past! (You think you figure it out in the first one.....ha!)

I love how many story lines there are within the pages and what we discover about the lives of the characters.
Lisa Renee Jones truly does keep us on our toes. I am not kidding when I say, I could not for the life of me figure out the plot or where she was going! She completely lured me in and has me completely mesmerized with Sara (and Rebecca's!) tale! Every time I 'thought' I knew what was up and where the story was going, she tricked me!! (Not an easy feat, I raise my wine glass to her!)
Any author who can keep the readers second guessing in such a way get's an A++ in my book!
It is Ah-mazing.

One of the biggest things I really enjoy about the writing, is something I have touched on before. Unlike some BDSM novels, the sex and BDSM isn't 'gratuitous' and it's not just there to spice up the book! It's actually a very large part of the story and not just in a 'romantic' way. (You will be shocked at what you discover about one of the characters in particular......) That is always a big sell to me when it comes to the sexier novels. I like to point this out to people who are squeamish about any book with a bit of BDSM or Erotica. If I am going to read the sexy novels and recommend it... One of the things on the list I need is a substantial story line and THIS my friends has it in spades!

Words To Describe This Series: Provocative and Thrilling.

TidBit: The Inside Out Trilogy has been optioned for a Cable Show!! UMMM Yes Please!!!

I so look forward to the story continuing in the next book "Being Us" (<---write down="" i="" the="" title="">)

I CAN'T WAIT to see what happens next!! I'm not kidding, If I was at the book store and there was one copy left of 'Being Us' and someone grabbed it out of my hands, let's just say there would be a showdown and I would win!

(Book Nerds Gone Wild!)

"Being Me" is released as of June 11th 2013, so mark that date on your calendar!

Now that I have read 'Being Me' I am going to have to grab a copy of the novella that follows called 'The Master Undone'. Hopefully that will help take the edge off until the next book releases!

If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know when it comes to novels I love that if I have them on a reading device, I also purchase the physical copy for my library. So it will come as no surprise that I fully intend to do that with any Lisa Renee Jones book I come across!
THAT is how much I love this author!

Your mission should you choose to accept it:
Grab a copy of "If I Were You" ...Run get those novellas in your hands and finish them before "Being Me" releases!!

You'll Thank Me.....

I promise!!!

Happy Reading!!

Beautiful Stranger ~ by Christina Lauren

"Haven't we met??... You're some kind of Beautiful Stranger.........You could be good for me.... I have a taste for Danger"~ Madonna

It's been awhile since I've set foot into the club scene.
(I think Nelly was still getting 'Hot' somewhere urging women to disrobe.. and Christina was Diirty... I have no clue, the years are starting to blend together.....)

Once upon a time, I had some great nights out with friends.
Drinking, dancing, meeting cute guys.
Rejecting the not so cute ones......

There is one story that still makes me giggle to this day. (Okay, there are plenty of stories but this is the one I choose to share today!!)

My friends and I were having our drinks by the corner of the dance floor. We noticed these guys gawking at us. They were short, unattractive, cocky and somewhat gross. They stood no chance.
Naturally, when they noticed we saw them staring, they decided that meant they could zero in on us. We pretended to ignore them, but to no avail.
That particular evening, I was wearing a cute cropped, black shirt that said 'je t'aime' on it in silver glitter. One of the creeps walks up, leers at me (and when I say 'me' I mean my chest) and says in this French accent:
"Do you know what your shirt means?"
"Yes" I replied batting my eyelashes "It means 'Fuck Off'!"
 *enter angelic grin here*

Back than subtly was not my strong suit.

If you think my being that rude deserved punishment, I got it... the guy actually thought I was joking and still wouldn't go away. Took another few minutes for them to take the hint.

So, why am I sharing to with you that particular story?
Because THAT ladies (and gentleman) was NOT a Beautiful Stranger moment.

Have YOU ever had a real Beautiful Stranger moment?
Do you even know what that means yet? Probably not......

Well than it's time for you to meet a sizzling read!

Only very recently did I blog about writing duo Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings and their completely sexy novel 'Beautiful Bastard'...(click here to read that review if you missed it.... it's like.... awesome)
I was/am obsessed with the book. (Hello dear sister, may I please have my copy back!)
Many of my readers upon reading that blog review, dropped what they were reading, ran out to grab copies and have thanked me for the great recommendation!
(Seriously if you haven't read it yet, GET ON IT!!)

I told you that the minute I could get my manicured paws on a copy of their next book Beautiful Stranger, I would and report it to you ASAP!
True to my word, when the book came up for early release on April 16th, I did not hesitate to download a copy!

**Please note** The book was released early for e-book, or exclusively in Paperback at Target Stores.
May 28th is when you will find the Paperback released at other retailers!!**

After battling my Kobo for half a day (Don't get me started!! F*N technology!) the book finally registered to my device.
It didn't take me long to read at all. Just an afternoon....because OH MY GOD CHRISTINA AND LAUREN HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!!!!

Why am I so excited about these authors? (Forgive me if I repeat myself)
Their writing style is in your face, fun, sarcastic and witty! They tell a story the way I like to hear modern day tales! It's most entertaining! To me, these books read in the same outrageous tone and language as if I were out having drinks and giggles with my girlfriends.
(We're fun)

Fans of Beautiful Bastard will be excited to hear that while this novel does not revolve around Bennett and Chloe, they most certainly ARE very much involved in this book! Never fear!!! We are not done with them yet!!

Let me tell you more!

Sara Dillion is one of Chloe's dear friends and coworkers at Ryan Media. We met Sara in Beautiful Bastard, she's spunky and fun......annnnnnnnd has moved to New York!
Beautiful Stranger is Sara's story which picks up some time after the story in BB ends. The transition between stories is seamless.
Sara ends up meeting her 'Beautiful Stranger' in a club after her breakup.....and this meeting is straight out of the 'Fantasy Hook Up' guide book. It's 'deliciously naughty'.
Like BB, we waste no time getting to the heart (sexy sexy time) parts of the story. It is a very amusing way start a novel to say the least!

Max Stella, British playboy extraordinaire, is in over his head. He can't stop thinking about that girl he met at the club. When chance has it that he and Sara (aka Petal) have more in common than realized, things start to take off.
He does what ever he can to please her. Even when it comes to her unusual new-found desires.
(You'll have to read to know what I mean)

That's all you get from me....I refuse to spoil this book for you!!
Beautiful Stranger may have your eyes bulging out of your head.
I am pretty sure events in this novel had ME blushing, and I assure you, that is not an easy task.

Now, some people may ask... "DO I need to read the books in order?"
Truth be told, you could easily get away with reading Beautiful Stranger first.... BUT... I wouldn't!
There is no fun in that!
You should meet the characters as they are in Book One, so you can understand a few parts in Book Two.

Will there be more books released?
Yes! Novellas and Another Book titled "Beautiful Player'
You KNOW I will keep an eye out for them!!
(Purchase, completely devour them... than tell you all about it...)

So, all in all. If you see a book with "Christina Lauren" as the author......

Read the damn book!

xoxo

Happy Reading.

Here is the book description from Amazon.com:

"Escaping a cheating ex, finance whiz Sara Dillon's moved to New York City and is looking for excitement without a lot of strings attached. So meeting the irresistible, sexy Brit at a dance club should have meant nothing more than a night's fun. But the manner--and speed--with which he melts her inhibitions turns him from a one-time hookup and into her Beautiful Stranger.

The whole city knows Max Stella loves women, not that he's ever found one he particularly wants to keep around. Despite pulling in plenty with his Wall Street bad boy charm, it's not until Sara--and the wild photos she lets him take of her--that he starts wondering if there's someone for him outside of the bedroom.

Hooking up in places where anybody could catch them, the only thing scarier for Sara than getting caught in public is having Max get too close in private."

I've got a S.E.C.R.E.T.....

Okay... I really don't have a secret.

At least I don't think I do......

(Let's see if I can remember one by than end of this post)
I'm pretty much an open book. (I've posted pictures of my fuzzy handcuffs on a previous blog, so the admission I don't have a secret shouldn't shock you)
I'm pretty bad with secrets in the sense I completely forget what anyone tells me. Do you know how awkward it is when a friend tells you something, than six months later they bring it up to discuss and you are like "WHAT??? Why didn't you tell me!!!!" and they reply "I DID tell you" and I'm like "Oh NO you didn't" ....so than they fill me in on the conversation and I am like "Oh yeah.....now I remember" (But half the time I really don't....There it is! MY secret!!)

My memory gets worse with age. (And lack of sleep)

However, I am pretty sure if a friend of mine told me she joined a 'Secret Sex Society'.... I'd remember that doozy!!! (All the while bugging for details....Some people need to live vicariously you know)

I finally picked up a copy of S.E.C.R.E.T by L.Marie Adeline on the weekend, read it in less than 24hours.
(One cool thing for us Canadian chicks......the author is from Canada eh?)

If you haven't heard what all the fuss is about, than let me fill you in.

S.E.C.R.E.T is about a woman named Cassie, in her thirties, widowed and living a dull life as an insecure waitress. She's watching life pass her by, thinking she is past her prime and has no hope for love or anything. She's all but given up on dating and her appearance. A large part of her insecurities stem from a husband who had verbally, emotionally and physically abused her. She feels worthless. She has not led a sexy life, very virginal and 'boring' by today's standards.
She starts noticing and envying a woman who frequents the cafe she works at. This woman accidentally leaves a notebook behind, a diary of sorts, which Cassie can't help but sneak a peek at.
Just a few explicitly detailed paragraphs are enough to make her blush.

Enter what is to become her dirty little S.E.C.R.E.T.
A society where you get to act out your sexual fantasies as a way of healing and self discovery. It's essentially a hands on approach to therapy.
No Judgements. No Limits. No Shame.
With the help of S.E.C.R.E.T Cassie learns to be empowered by her sexuality, gaining confidence over the year as she completes her steps and gains a charm for her special bracelet.

What did I think?

I'm not going to lie. I have heard so many people making such a big deal about this novel I was expecting something 'new' and spectacular that would blow my mind. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't meet my expectations at all. The hype was overrated. It wasn't as dirty or complicated a storyline as say Fifty Shades or the Crossfire series.

Now, I am NOT saying I didn't enjoy it. I actually DO think it was an entertaining read, a nice simple story to pass the time. (Truth be told I would probably classify this as more a beach or bubble bath read) If you like sexy 'Mommy Porn' books than by all means do pick up a copy. (Treat Yourself!)
For me, it was very 'skim the surface' and a bit predictable. I found it was tame compared to other books in the genre, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Especially if the thought of sexy books scares you or makes you uncomfortable. I found myself constantly comparing S.E.C.R.E.T to the likes of Kathryn Harvey's 'Butterfly', but that particular novel had more twists, turns, storyline etc...
S.E.C.R.E.T to me was a 'safer' version. (Is it stereotypical that the Canadian author has the more 'polite' sexy novel?)

I have to admit the way it ends peeved me off a bit. It took me by surprise how abrupt it was and left me wanting more.... but in a different way than most books.
Let me explain:
Recently Blackbrooke by Emily Silver left me screaming "Nooooooo don't leave me hanging!!!" I can't wait to read the next installment of that series and am practically jumping up and down salivating for it.....
S.E.C.R.E.T on the other hand left me thinking "Gah, how dare you just slam the breaks on the story!!WTF!"... but I do have the patience to wait for any sequel in the works and wont rush out to get it....Eventually I will get around to it when the mood strikes. (Get my drift?)

I guess we are just going to have to wait and see how the next novel plays out..... if it is a continuation of Cassie's story or perhaps a new recruit into S.E.C.R.E.T with a whole new batch of fantasies played out.....

Happy Reading!

Selling Out by Amber Lin

                                           "OhMiGOD.....SUUUUUCH A GOOD BOOK!!!!!"

Now let me tell you, I don't give a rat's patootie if you don't typically like or read 'Erotica' because clearly you have never read anything by Amber Lin.Throw all your preconceived notions of the genre out the window and give her Lost Girls series a try. (Just do it!!)
I've previously reviewed and HIGHLY recommended her book 'Giving It Up' to all the Mommy Porn readers and generally anyone (over the age of 18) looking for a great read.
Let me tell you, the novels are incredible!!! This author is clever story teller who writes passionately, and I don't just mean about the kinky bits! Both novels are emotional, well developed, intricate and clever. When you read a book by Amber Lin, you aren't reading a 'fluffy-kissy kissy-romantic- happily ever after-sex-fest'.... you are reading a hardcore, down to earth, gritty story of intrigue, life lessons with a sexual element.

I feel like Amber Lin has tossed down the gauntlet to other authors and snapped:

"Here I am bitches!! Beat that!"

Love it!

Here is the blurb from Amazon.com:

Shelly Laurent escapes her life as a high-class escort, but against her better judgment she takes the scared young Ella with her. In retaliation, her pimp and his dirty cops frame them both for murder. On the run, Shelly turns to the one man who could be her salvation: Detective Luke Cameron. She doesn't know if she can trust him or if he's just a mirage, but she needs his help to free them all.

With a heart forged in fire and irreverence born of necessity, Shelly fights Ella's demons--and faces her own. She throws light on the shadows of Chicago's underworld, challenging everything she knew and the man she's come to love. Together, a prostitute and a cop fight for truth stronger than secrets, hope deeper than deception, and a bond more enduring than betrayal.

My Take:

As you read above....'Selling Out' is Shelly's story. A prostitute with a good heart, but a lousy career that she wants out of. She has an 'interesting' friendship with a cop named Luke. She lusts after him from afar but that's about that... (oooor is it?).... they have a complex 'relationship' to say the least.
This character while she is clever, caring and compassionate is also rough around the edges! Sassy and tough as nails. Shelly's scars run deep, but the way she goes out of her way for others is commendable. Whether it is saving young hookers like 'Ella' from following in her footsteps, or looking out for her best friend and the small child Shelly helped raise. She has a heart of gold, sacrificing herself to keep others from hurting.
Her story is emotional, gripping and sad.

We learn more about Luke's character in this novel. He is a cop with a keen interest in helping save Shelly and any prostitute he can. The two dance around their feelings for one another as they try to bust Henri, the big boss 'Pimp' who has a nasty hold over Shelly and Chicago's Underground.
He's a dangerous man, but that won't stop Shelley from trying to stop him once and for all, no matter what it takes.

If you have read the first novel in the series, than you will be happy to know that we see Allie, Colin and even Philip again!
The plot in this book is just as complicated and compelling as it was in the previous novel. With all the twists and turns you will not be able to put it down! So, when you read it, clear your schedule!!  Since it is a continuation of the story, I recommend reading Giving it Up before you continue with this novel. (I also recommend you check out my 'Giving It Up' blog)

This is a FIVE star novel in my opinion. So what are you waiting for? Check.It.Out!!

Happy Reading!

This is a series you really shouldn't read out of order!

So what did I think of the much anticipated Reflected In You???

**drumroll please**

Looooooooooooooooooved it!!!!!

Couldn't put it down.

At all.

So much so I almost forgot to take my daughter to her dance class! (We made it with minutes to spare!)
Than like a true book addict, I sent my husband to pick her up and I stayed up late to enjoy the silence and finish reading. The story picked up right where it left off. We are thrown into the story as Eva and Gideon's jealousy issues are at an all time high!

(When you read it pop some popcorn, get wine, wear comfy clothes, don't expect to sleep)

We have the same cast of characters (see previous blog for those who have no idea who they are) but we meet a few new ones! Mainly an ex boyfriend of Eva's named Brett Kline and also her father who comes for a visit. Brett is out to win Eva back! (Say WHAT!!?)  Corrine (Gideon's ex finance who we met in book one) is also back in the picture. Sparks are flying and steam is coming out of Eva's ears.
Some secrets about the past are revealed and we learn more about both Gideon and Eva, but we still have ALOT to learn and a lot of loose ends that need tied up. True to her nature, Sylvia Day leaves us wanting more! Her books are truly addicting!

Eva and Gideon have such a tumultuous relationship, they are so obsessed with each other it borders on insanity. At times reading it I thought to myself 'I don't care how sexy he is, dude needs a restraining order!'. Gideon is very domineering and his silence in the book frustrating. You feel Eva's irritation. You do not know what Gideon is thinking or what he is up to.
It's funny how absorbed in a novel I can get when I really truly want to jump in and yell at the characters. He was driving ME insane.
(Men take note: What women like... Hot sex = Yes!  Being Stalked and Bossed around = No!)

Eva, on the other hand, is one chick in need of a chill pill. She is one of the most imperfect heroines I think I have ever read about (which is why this novel is so interesting) She has so many past demons to deal with, it's a wonder she has energy left to tolerate the insatiable Mr. Cross and his moody temper (let alone all the other drama that comes her way)
It doesn't help she likes to stick her nose in his business where it doesn't belong all the while complaining that he does it to her. She has a tit-for-tat philosophy (he wants the tits, she wants the tat....bahahahaha..K, I get it, the joke sucked....moving on.....) I have to say though. I love how she can call him out on his crap!

Cary is back with his own set of problems, in the first novel he was a bit of a mess in regards to his love life. He wants to be with Trey, but is also involved with a woman. We find Cary continue on his journey trying to balance life as a bisexual male with an overly healthy sex drive. (Let's not forget the group sex scene in Bared To You!) It will be interesting to see what happens in the third book in the Crossfire series. Will he end up with Trey? (I'm willing to bet on it!)

Yeah... okay now what about those Sexy Scenes??? (I KNOW what some of you want to know...naughty naughty!)
Oh not to worry, like in Bared to You those sexy moments are Ahhh Ahhhhh Ahhhhhhhhh-plenty! (see what I did there *wink*wink*) If you are a fan of Sylvia Day's work she does not disappoint!
There is mile high mounting, concert kinky, more limo lovin', sexy showers..... you get the picture!
When Eva and Gideon are not mad at eachother... oh who am I kidding? Even WHEN they are mad at each other they are still screwing each other senseless.
There is talk of kinkier sex (think swings and things) but we have yet to see that actually happen. I'm banking on book three.

Two Words To Describe Reflected In You: Steamy & Stormy.

 Favorite Moment:

A part of  the novel really cracked me up. It takes place in Vegas when Eva is by the pool and she realizes just how far Gideon will go to make sure she is all his. It involves hotel security and free drinks.

So ladies...gents...and whoever else is reading this blog..... Do I recommend Reflected In You?
Yes I do!!
Just remember, read Bared To You first!!

Next up in the series is the final book called Entwined With You.
Can't wait!!!

Happy Reading!

Hot In Handcuffs

Not too long ago my 8 year old daughter came running to me all excited shrieking ‘Mommy, these are so cool! Can I keep them?’

You can imagine the look of shock and horror on my face when I saw the item she was holding. It was a gag gift I'd received about 11 years ago from a friend. (YES it was a gag gift!!) A pair of fuzzy purple handcuffs that had long been forgotten in a bedroom drawer. (Oh 'Shut Up' all of you who don't believe me! I don't even know where the keys are!)

‘No Naomi, you may not keep them.... and you really shouldn’t be in the drawers in my room, they are private’ I responded.

“But my friends and I could use them for playing!!” She whined. I shook my head NO and tried to control the irresistible urge to laugh. I told her to go put them back where she found them.
(I felt like I was on a hidden camera show)

I thought she was about to leave to do as I asked when a light bulb went off in her head.

‘Mommy, why do you have handcuffs anyway?’
(Well, sometimes when two people love each other they play good cop, bad cop... )

Thinking fast on my feet I responded “Well, you know how we always say if anyone ever broke into the house, that mommy would kick their butts right? Well, I need the handcuffs to help until the police arrive”
(My story and I'm sticking to it!)

“Mommy, but why are they fuzzy and purple?”
(Are you still here? Don't you have a dance to make up? Some Wii games to play? Coloring to do? Put the cuffs back and forget they exist child!!!)

I replied “Well, that’s because I am a girl, and I think they are much prettier than boring old silver handcuffs”
(True Story)

Satisfied with that answer, she passed them to me, and took off.
(She bought it! Phew!)

A few points I need to make before moving on:
A) Gag gift or not, hide your 'toys' where the kids wont snoop.
B)  I need to find the keys.... *wink*wink*nudge*nudge*
C) If Paul Walker or Ryan Reynolds break into my house anytime soon, I'm prepared!

A great gift for friends!

Stop laughing about my cuffs.... let's move on to a book with Handcuffs in the title!

If you are a "Mommy Porn" aficionado (or fancy to be one) you have probably heard of "Hot In Handcuffs". The book is a collection of three short stories by Shayla Black, Sylvia Day and Shiloh Walker.

I was in the mood for a lighter read to help me mellow out and relax. "Hot In Handcuffs" sounded like what the doctor ordered! (I swear the doctors scribble on the prescription said 'read porn'....either that or 'take penicillin'... potato..po-tat-o...whatever)

The rundown:

The first story "Arresting Desire" by Shayla Black involves characters named Jon Bocelli and Lucia DiStefano. He's a studly FBI agent, she's a young 25 year old virgin. Two years after they've last seen each other, he discovers she is still a virgin, but not for long if she can help it. Jon finds out Lucia is heading off to an erotic resort to 'give it up' to a random stranger, and he snaps. The two set out to solve the mystery regarding his brother and her father all the while giving into their lust once and for all! This novella is certainly a sexual fantasy if there ever was.
Short Story + Steamy Sex = Meeee-ow.

Sylvia Day is the author of the second novella "On Fire" (Yes, yes it is!) The title says it all. Ms. Day had a bit more 'meat' (for lack of a better term) to the story than the previous. She tells the tale of Fire Inspector Darcy Michaels, who ends up in a whirlwind relationship with the sexy Deputy U.S. Marshal sent to help solve the arson case plaguing her town. Jared Cameron is unlike the men she typical gets involved with. What should be a one night stand, becomes a blazing hot, passion-filled relationship. Talk about sparks! I love how the two decide to hook up. (You'll have to read the story to find out how it happened!)
The novella is a hot sex fest, with a decent story line. I enjoyed it from start to finish!

Last but not least "The Unwilling" by Shiloh Walker surprised me. It wasn't as sexual as the first two. (Which isn't too bad, as by the second story you probably need a cold shower, fresh batteries and need to let your lover rest!) The story is about two psychics and former lovers. A Lieutenant named Mica Greer and former FBI agent named Colby Mathis. The two are reunited 15 years later to hunt for a twisted serial killer. While getting inside the killers head, they realize that they are still in each others hearts. I liked the concept and enjoyed the story. I wish it had been longer. Sometimes I found the story to be confusing, I wish I had more background on the characters and understood their psychic abilities more. It took some getting used to.

All in all "Hot In Handcuffs" is a novel that will leave you saying 'Hawt Damn!' and may have you purchasing your own set of cuffs. If you are looking for a pool side 'smokin' hot' read, you can add this novel to your list!

While you check out the book, I'm off to find those keys! ;)

Happy Reading!

Giving It Up by Amber Lin

One Word: WOW!

Three Words: What a story!

Now More Words:  (Go get a snack, we could be awhile!)

I keep reading and blogging about “Mommy Porn” books to the point I’m tempted to rename my blog "Hawt Damn!” ~ perhaps add some Barry White music to the page for effect.

If there is one thing that is becoming more and more apparent to me (and everyone else paying attention) it’s that Erotica is in! Fifty Shades has left woman panting, drooling and begging for more. A lot of ladies are wondering where to turn for their next naughty novel. Well quit scratching your heads, tell your friends, turn HERE to my blog. I’m almost too eager ('lil ol' me?) to do this research for you and I promise there are more books and blogs to come! (Making my list, checkin' it twice gonna find out who's naughty, annnnnnnd naughtier!)

Next up on my ‘Hawt Damn’ list, right on the heels of my last "Mommy Porn" recommendation (see previous blog) comes a novel due to be released on June 19th!

That novel is a debut novel by Amber Lin, an up and coming author I insist you check out! It's a darker, more heartbreaking tale.

Here's the gist:

Allie is a broken young woman who’s had a rough life. She has a sexy secret (Without beating around the bush- she’s a once a month slut) who's latest one night stand is not like the others.Usually in it for the 'wham bam- thank ya ma'am', the connection she has with this new man throws her. Colin makes her feel things she doesn't want to feel. He is her White Knight (or is he...?) Sexy secrets aside, she struggles to support her young daughter with the help of her best friend Shelly. Being in a relationship, trusting a man isn't what she wants to do. She tries to shake it off and move on without him. When her rapist shows back up in her life, her world is turned upside down. She's backed into a corner, and needs to figure out her 'shit' out and fast! (pardon my language)
Maybe taking a leap of faith with Colin isn't such a bad idea after all....

The book is told from Allie’s perspective. Amber’s writing is fluid and it captures the many emotions (desperation, shame, guilt, anxiety) of Allie’s character amazingly well. Allie is gritty, determined and lost. Her love as a mother adds a softer side to the plot. All she wants is to keep her child safe and loved. While I didn't agree with everything she does, or how she goes about things, I was cheering her on.
I find Colin from start to finish remains a bit of a mystery. He seems to have a good heart and good intentions, but sometimes his behavior leaves you questioning his motives. Is he honorable? Is he her savior? Or is he like all the rest, and up to no good? (You have to read to find out)
Shelly's character both amused and saddened me. A prostitute who turns tricks to make ends meet for both her and her friend. Her strength, loyalty and love for Allie and child knows no bounds. This isn't your flowery, happy-go-lucky fairytale, not at all.
The sex is raw. The story is heart wrenching. The characters captivating.

I encourage you to watch the book trailer, and visit Amber’s website for more information or get your copy here!

This will be a book I read again!!

Fifty Shades of 'Oh My' Part 2 ~ The Series Summary

Anastasia is young woman, a student about to graduate and enter the real world. She meets Christian Grey, a successful 27 year old billionaire. They are very attracted to one another, but Christian has some dark and unusual secrets.
Ana is a naive virgin who has her work cut out for her when Christian offers her a special 'contract' that outlines the type of relationship he is after. The novels follow the two as they try to make things work. Ana is introduced into his dark and extremely kinky S & M world. Christian needs to work on battling his demons and has to learn to change his ways so he can keep her.  It’s captivating, it’s surprising, and it’s incredibly sexual.

I had this trilogy downloaded and read in two and a half days. I ignored the dishes, forgot to make dinner, carried my kobo everywhere, and stayed up past midnights two days in a row to finish the series! I read it every spare moment I could find, between diapers, playtime, and all the rest.

What had me so captivated? I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was not the 'cheesy dialogue smut fest' that I had envisioned. The storyline was an emotional roller coaster, and I was sucked into it. The books have several raw sexual scenes, that are incredibly important to the plot.  I’d be spoiling it if I explained why, so I will perhaps touch on that subject another time. I refuse to give away any spoilers, so here is the gist of it from my point of view.

The first novel ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ I found to be the most explicit. There were times while reading it I was getting angry on Ana’s behalf. I cried toward the end. Emotional to say the least. It was definitely the best book of the lot.

The second novel ‘Fifty Shades of Darker’ had a lot going on. It picked up right where the first book left off. Lots of ups, downs, surprises, and you see the characters grow and mature a bit more while dealing with some members of Christian's past.

The last novel is called ‘Fifty Shades of Freed’. While I liked it because it was the final chapter of their story, I didn’t enjoy the flashback aspect of it, and found it ‘hastily’ written. I wish there had actually been a fourth and final novel with a tidier ending. I tend to be picky about the last novel in any series.

I have read a lot of criticism about the series, from how it is ‘poorly written’, to ‘boring sexual scenes’, to 'non-relatable characters’. I found those remarks quite interesting, after all it all depends where your particular tastes lie.  I have also read rave reviews, singing the praises of E.L. James and the incredible tale she has woven. There is a reason this series is being talked about, and why battle lines are being drawn. The question is, which side are you on?

Here is my official take:

If you prefer books fresh off Oprah’s List, don’t buy it, don’t read it. This series isn’t going to win a Pulitzer Prize unless there is a 'Porn Category' that I am unaware of. If your tastes run towards the likes of 'The Time Travelers Wife', 'Eat Pray Love', and 'The Help', but you aren’t into mainstream romantic fiction, this trilogy  is probably not for you. If you are uncomfortable with intense sexuality, than you may want to look elsewhere for your next read.

HOWEVER,

If you just love to read or are looking for a romantic series, and enjoy getting lost in an interesting story, than this ‘off the beaten path’ trilogy is for you. It’s essentially 'Twilight' for Adults (minus vampires and werewolves) and if you do your research, than you won’t be surprised to learn how it originated. A fact I learned only after I made the comparison on my own.

Those of you who have skimmed past all that and are foaming at the mouth wanting to know what the ‘Erotic’ hype is about. Well here you go. There is a reason this book has been dubbed ‘Mommy Porn’. It has some 'Passionate Pages', some 'Steamy Scenes' lots of 'Orgasmic Originality'.  The scenes are highly descriptive and explicit. If you shock easily, than some of the scenarios may have your eyes bugging out of your head.  There were times I was reading eyes open wide saying ‘Oh HELL no!’, and other times I was popping chocolate in my mouth, sipping wine saying ‘Ooooh my,my, my... you go girl!’..and perhaps I was even taking notes ready to call my friendly Passions Party Consultants on where to find some of the 'toys' (yeah, uh-huh it's called a flogger...?) ;) But that's neither here nor there. Oh calm down mother!

It’s as tastefully written as can be, and if you would like to disagree with me, I have a ‘novel’ I can recommend to you for comparison on that note, and you can tell me which is worse (or better?)
The sex being a very essential part of the storyline, Fifty Shades would be hum-drum if the author hadn’t taken it to the extreme.  Most romantic authors end up writing the same scenes, scenarios and dialogue in all their books. I congratulate E.L. James for going above and beyond and having the imagination to do so.

I have actually read complaints that the sexual scenes ‘weren’t that interesting’. If that is so, than I want to know what the complainers ‘playrooms’ actually hold! I am sure a lot of these comments are actually coming from people who perhaps read more erotic material and their expectations were higher. To the average romance novel reader, you are getting more ‘bang’ for your buck (Pun Intended)

One of the most enjoyable parts of the novels for me personally had little to do with sex. There are several emails between Ana and Christian throughout the series, and I found them hilarious and amusing. Whether they were arguing or flirting. The playful banter was quite witty and entertaining. It was a nice touch!

The movie rights have allegedly been purchased by Universal. I’ll be interested to see how they interpret everything on the big screen and who they will cast in the roles. I've heard mention of Dakota Fanning as Anastasia, I don't see it......

The bottom line is, this trilogy is what it is. I don’t think anyone should really go in with any expectations other than it is an interesting read. Mine were poor going in and now I am championing it! Nitpicking over all the details of an adult romance is silly. Read the book, enjoy the story and if you really want to, let it inspire you.

Laters!! xxoo
